The Financial Times Recognizes Latham’s Innovative Work in Asia

Latham & Watkins earned recognition for its work on groundbreaking deals in the Financial Times' 2016 “Asia-Pacific Innovative Lawyers” report, published in conjunction with research partner RSG Consulting. The report aimed to showcase firms that “have developed exceptionally innovative practices to meet their clients’ needs in a fast-changing environment.” 

Latham’s work on the following matters was recognized in the report.

In Corporate & Commercial:

  • Highly Commended for advising Hong Kong-based Nord Anglia Education on its acquisition of six schools in North America, Europe and China. Latham was credited for helping to “design a successful alternative financing structure” while coordinating the transaction across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Commended for advising Shenzhen-based Tencent on its groundbreaking partnership with the NBA, marking the completion of the first exclusive deal to run NBA games live in China. The report noted that Latham “navigated multiple restrictions on foreign content entering China in the strategic partnership between Tencent and the NBA, leveraging social media and online gaming platforms to the benefit of both companies.”

In Finance:

  • Commended for advising Melco Crown Entertainment on the contingency planning and restructured financing of its subsidiary Studio City, a $3.2 billion Hollywood-inspired integrated entertainment resort that opened in Macau in October 2015.
