Recognizing Latham & Watkins’ recent efforts representing healthcare industry leaders across high-profile transactional, regulatory and litigation matters, Law360 has named the firm’s Healthcare & Life Sciences Practice a “Health Group of the Year” for 2015.

“We marry a transactional platform with a sophisticated health care regulatory capability across jurisdictions, and we’re one of the few firms that can deliver that capability,” Los Angeles corporate partner Daniel Settelmayer, a Co-chair of Latham’s global Healthcare & Life Sciences Practice, told Law360. Latham’s recent advice to HCA Holdings Inc. in various acquisitions and False Claims Act litigation matters was cited by Law360 as indicative of the firm’s work, which Settelmayer noted as demonstrating “how we can handle litigation and government investigations work as well as high-end transactional regulatory work for sophisticated clients.”

San Diego litigation partner Katherine Lauer, a Co-chair of the firm's global Healthcare and Life Sciences Practice, added: “Our health care fraud defense team is exceptionally well prepared to work with clients to craft a multi-faceted approach to responding to government civil and criminal investigations and False Claims Act litigation. Our focus is on obtaining the optimal result for our client — whether negotiating a favorable settlement agreement, aggressively litigating a case against a qui tam relator, the government, or both, or taking the case up on appeal.”
