Latham & Watkins Honored with Three Awards for Middle Market Deals

The Deal

April 03, 2019

Latham & Watkins was honored as an advisor on two deals that earned three awards from The Deal Awards Middle Market, including Deal of the Year, Activist Campaign of the Year, and Consumer Deal of the Year. The innovative, award-winning transactions include the take-private deal by George Feldenkreis of Perry Ellis International and the sale of First Aid Beauty to the Proctor & Gamble Company (P&G).

Earning the dual-honor of Deal of the Year and Activist Campaign of the Year was Latham’s representation of SCOPE Advisors LLC in Perry Ellis founder George Feldenkreis’ successful US$437 million bid to take the company private. The deal’s innovative financing structure split the company into three corporate entities, one containing Perry Ellis's intellectual property, a second its manufacturing assets, and a third its real estate holdings.

Latham’s representation of First Aid Beauty Limited in its US$250 million acquisition by P&G also earned praise, receiving Consumer Deal of the Year. The acquisition boosted both companies, with First Aid Beauty receiving the benefits of P&G’s global distribution and manufacturing platforms while P&G gained a popular brand that capitalizes on evolving consumer trends regarding cruelty-free products that can be used on-the-go.

The Deal Awards Middle Market featured deals involving at least one U.S. party with a deal value under US$500 million, and winners represent leaders and innovators in the world of dealmaking. The winners were evaluated and chosen by the editorial team at The Deal, and came from a pool of hundreds of nominees across dozens of categories, sectors, individuals and firms.
