Lisa Nguyen and Shagufa Hossain Named Asian Leaders Worth Watching

Latham & Watkins partners Lisa Nguyen and Shagufa Hossain have been recognized as 2021 Asian Leaders Worth Watching by Profiles in Diversity Journal. The inaugural award recognizes 24 leaders in law and industry who demonstrate “their dedication to excellence in all they do, their willingness to mentor and support the next generation, and their commitment to the larger community.” Nguyen and Hossain are each profiled in the current issue of the publication.

Nguyen, a member of Latham’s Litigation & Trial practice in the Silicon Valley office, has obtained nationally recognized victories for her clients, and serves as lead counsel for top technology companies. Nguyen regularly speaks and writes on patent counseling and IP issues, and co-coordinates the firm’s “Keeping Tabs on the PTAB” webcast series. Nguyen devotes considerable time to lifting up members of underrepresented communities, and advocating diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). Currently, Nguyen serves on Latham’s global Diversity Leadership Committee and as partner advisor to the firm’s Asian & Middle Eastern Lawyers Group. Nguyen is also an active member of the Diversity Committee for the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) Bar Association, and serves as vice-chair.

Hossain, based in Washington, D.C., and a member of Latham’s Corporate Department, represents private equity firms, investment banks, and public and private companies in a variety of financing and other transactions. Hossain devotes a large portion of her practice to representing clients in the booming market for special purpose acquisition companies (SPACs). She serves on the firm’s Recruiting Committee, and is dedicated to building a diversity pipeline in the legal profession that attracts and empowers students from underrepresented backgrounds. Hossain commits herself to mentoring and sponsoring junior lawyers through their associate years and beyond. Previously, Hossain led the Washington, D.C. chapter of the firm’s Asian & Middle Eastern Lawyers Group.
