Michèle Penzer, Office Managing Partner of Latham & Watkins in New York, has been named a Distinguished Leader by the New York Law Journal as part of its annual Professional Excellence Awards.

Penzer was honored for her clear leadership skills that led to positive outcomes for clients, the firm, and her local community. As a leading finance lawyer, she has navigated major banks through some of the most volatile market conditions over the past two decades. Since becoming Managing Partner of Latham’s New York office in 2015, Penzer has helped to oversee the firm’s successful and strategic growth in the world’s largest legal market. In addition to supporting the firm’s commitment to legal aid and pro bono in the community, Penzer serves on the board of the New York Women’s Foundation, an organization focused on improving the lives of low-income women and girls in New York City.

Penzer described what leadership means to her in the NYLJ, saying, “Strong leaders listen to different perspectives and work to build consensus. Leaders should be able to acknowledge mistakes and change course when needed. An effective leader understands that contribution can come in many different forms, often in new and unexpected ways.”
