London partner Tom Alabaster, Madrid partner Manuel Deo, and Dubai and Riyadh partner Harj Rai have been named to Private Funds Management‘s "30 under 40" list, which recognizes the 30 most influential private funds lawyers under the age of 40. The annual list highlights the success of lawyers in the practice areas of fund formation, M&A, tax and financial services.

Tom Alabaster, partner and co-head of investment funds in London, was recognized for his increasing role as the US managers’ go-to advisor for US sponsors operating in Europe, including with respect to fund formation, investment firm structuring  and the increasing importance of AIFMD. In addition to this, Tom was acknowledged for his active engagement on technical and regulatory committees sponsored by the BVCA and EVCA, as well as being a point of contact for EU policymakers wanting to discuss pending regulations, including the hot topic of shadow banking.

Manuel Deo, M&A partner in Madrid, was commended for his work with the Carlyle Group and other private equity sponsors on cross-border mergers, acquisitions, dispositions, and restructurings, in particular his involvement in Carlyle’s recent exit of Applus, which paved the way for a dual track M&A sale/IPO structure in the Spanish market. He was also recognized for being the youngest partner of the 2015 promotions at Latham, and for the recent Chambers Europe 2015 comment, where Manuel was described as “one of the brightest young lawyers in the market.”

Harj Rai, partner and local finance chair in Dubai and Riyadh, was recognized his increasing role as a leading expert on Islamic financing, including sukuk issuances and securitizations. Harj was commended for his “ground breaking projects” in recent years in the Middle East, notably advising Saudi Electricity Company on its $2.5 billion sukuk, marking the largest international 144A sukuk issued in 2014.
