The 2L Diversity Scholars Program includes a scholarship of US$25,000. Recipients receive the first US$10,000 upon starting as a summer associate at Latham and the balance of US$15,000 upon starting as a full-time associate at the firm. Since Latham launched the 2L Diversity Scholarship Program in 2005, the firm has awarded more than US$1,000,000 in scholarships to US law students.
Candidates for the 2L Diversity Scholars Program submitted written applications, detailing academic and leadership achievements and a demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion, as well as their work and personal experiences. The firm received more than 500 applications from students at more than 90 US law schools.
“Every year I am incredibly impressed by the caliber of applicants to our 1L Fellowship Program and 2L Diversity Scholars Program. The talents and accomplishments of our 2019 Scholars are astounding,” said Julie Crisp, Vice Chair of the Recruiting Committee.
Kevin Chambers, Global Chair of the Diversity Leadership Committee added: “As a firm, we are committed to helping those from backgrounds traditionally underrepresented in the legal industry find a path to success. Recruiting, retaining, and promoting diverse lawyers through programs like the 1L Fellowship and the 2L Diversity Scholarship are fundamental components of our firm’s diversity and inclusion strategy.”
