Latham & Watkins Releases Newest Edition in Popular Book of Jargon® Series – International Arbitration

Mobile and desktop reference tool defines more than 1,000 industry terms.

29 October 2018

Latham & Watkins LLP1 is pleased to announce the launch of its Book of Jargon® – International Arbitration, a comprehensive digital and print glossary of more than 1,000 arbitration and dispute terms, developed for the business, academic, and legal community. This easy-to-use reference tool helps demystify the often complex terminology, verbiage, and lingo of the arbitration discipline.

From “Abs-Shawcross Draft Convention” to “Writ of fieri facias,” Latham built the Book of Jargon® – International Arbitration to be an engaging and user-friendly resource that makes the arbitration lexicon more accessible and understandable to all, and in particular those handling and facing disputes.

“Disputes often straddle borders, corporate structures, jurisdictions, cultures, political systems, and treaties and the international business community has increasingly embraced arbitration as an important means of resolving complex, transnational commercial disputes,” said Claudia Salomon, Global Co-Chair of the firm’s International Arbitration Practice. “With this steady uptick in the use of arbitration, our mission in building this interactive tool is to address the market need for a reliable and easy-to-use glossary of key terms and concepts. Reflective of our global team’s deep experience successfully guiding clients through their most complex, business-critical disputes, our new compendium helps anyone decode the lingo as well as the commercial, political, and diplomatic nuances of this growing and highly specialized field.”

Lawyers from across Latham’s International Arbitration Practice, led by partner Philip Clifford QC, collaborated to compile hundreds of frequently used terms and craft concise definitions to help readers navigate the intricate workings of arbitration more quickly and effectively.

The Book of Jargon® – International Arbitration is available in print, as an online web-based application/resource, and as a free mobile app on iTunes for Apple devices and on Google Play for Android devices. It can also be accessed on the firm’s website under the International Arbitration and Litigation & Trial practice pages.

With the launch of the Book of Jargon® – International Arbitration, Latham now offers 12 Books of Jargon®, providing a comprehensive A-Z library. Other topics include: Emerging Companies, European Capital Markets and Bank Finance, Global M&A, Global Restructuring, Healthcare & Life Sciences, Hedge Funds, Master Limited Partnerships (MLPs), Oil & Gas, Patent Trial & Appeal Board (PTAB), Project Finance, and US Corporate and Bank Finance.
