Silicon Valley

Over more than a quarter century, Latham’s San Francisco Bay Area offices have grown and innovated alongside the global economy’s most dynamic players.

Drawing on the firm’s global reach, we have become one of Silicon Valley’s largest legal advisors, uniquely well-positioned to guide companies through every stage of development, from startup formation to IPO or acquisition and beyond. Our nationally renowned litigators and trial lawyers regularly set precedents affecting entire industries, from high-stakes securities litigation, to cutting-edge technology and data privacy cases, to healthcare, life sciences, and intellectual property matters. Having advised clients through the ups and downs of industry booms and busts we provide sophisticated, experienced counsel to market-leading innovators and investors across industries.

Giving Back

As one of the world’s largest pro bono providers, Latham takes on matters in nearly every area of public interest law. In the Bay Area, some of our key pro bono causes include ending pre-arraignment cash bail, and advocating for poverty relief, tenants’ rights, and children’s rights issues.

The Silicon Valley office has made a strong commitment to serve the community. Its lawyers routinely handle a variety of pro bono matters in the areas of domestic violence, immigration, guardianship and consumer law, among others, in an effort to provide high-quality legal representation to individuals and organizations in the Bay Area who would not otherwise be able to afford them.

In 2008, the Pro Bono Project of Silicon Valley awarded Latham & Watkins' Silicon Valley office its Foundation Award for work the firm's lawyers have done with clients in the Domestic Violence Limited Scope Representation Program.

In addition, for the past six years, Latham attorneys and professional staff in Silicon Valley have volunteered for the Reading Buddies program at the Beechwood School. Reading Buddies are pairs of readers, one student and one adult, who meet one day a week during the lunch hour to read and discuss a good book and work on reading skills.
