Ms. Betsch represents public companies and corporate officers and directors in securities class actions, shareholder derivative litigation, mergers and acquisitions litigation and other complex, high-stakes litigation.

 

 

Ms. Betsch’s experience includes advising:

  • Pharmaceutical company and its officers in securing a unanimous jury verdict on the majority of plaintiffs’ claims in the first federal securities class action to reach a verdict in nearly a decade
  • Investment services company in filing arbitration action to recover for breach of contract  
  • CEO of a technology company in securing a unanimous defense verdict following a three-week jury trial in a Securities and Exchange Commission enforcement action alleging disclosure violations and insider trading
  • Pharmaceutical company in filing a lawsuit to prevent a competitor’s hostile takeover attempt, and obtaining a partial preliminary injunction that helped defeat the takeover bid
  • Telecommunications company and its officers and directors in defending against alleged breaches of fiduciary duty and disclosure violations in connection with acquisition, and negotiating favorable settlement before conclusion of trial in the Delaware Court of Chancery
  • Medical device company and several of its directors in securing dismissal of federal securities fraud class action complaint alleging disclosure violations, and prevailing on appeal in the Ninth Circuit
  • Medical device company in defending against federal securities fraud class action alleging disclosure violations
  • Retailer in defending against high-profile, federal securities fraud class action alleging disclosure violations

While in law school, Ms. Betsch served as an extern to Judge Anthony J. Battaglia of the United States District Court for the Southern District of California, an extern to Judge Ronald S. Prager of the San Diego Superior Court, and a law clerk for the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of California. She also served as a member of the San Diego Law Review and the Appellate Moot Court Executive Board.
