Peter Durning is counsel in the Los Angeles office of Latham & Watkins. Mr. Durning is a commercial litigator in the firm’s Complex Commercial Litigation and International Arbitration practices, with significant experience in civil and criminal matters in state and federal court, and in arbitration. Mr. Durning has particular experience in complex and technical issues of causation and damages (a subject on which he has co-authored work in a practitioner’s guide), and his matters frequently involve sophisticated questions of contractual interpretation.
Mr. Durning has previously been the lead associate on numerous key witnesses at arbitral hearings, and on several successful summary judgment and summary adjudication motions, and other pretrial motions in limine, discovery motions, and related proceedings. He is experienced in trial (including witness examination and cross-examination), as well as the taking and defending of depositions, and he has delivered numerous oral arguments to the court.
In addition to his civil practice, Mr. Durning has presided as an arbitrator pursuant to appointment by the International Chamber of Commerce. His pro bono work focuses on the representation of the interests (as a third party in various federal proceedings) of an international charitable organization that combats human trafficking and other abuses in developing countries.
