Robert Buday is Global Co-Chair of Latham & Watkins’ Real Estate Practice and a member of the firm’s Associates Committee. Mr. Buday has extensive experience in a range of complex real estate transactions and routinely represents clients in all aspects of acquisitions, dispositions, development projects, joint ventures, and financings involving all property types. His practice includes asset and entity-level transactions, transfers, and recapitalizations of real estate operating companies and real estate M&A transactions. He has significant experience representing clients in structuring, negotiating, and forming joint ventures, partnerships, and other investment vehicles. 

Mr. Buday has also represented foreign and domestic investors in connection with various infrastructure investments throughout the US. He has extensive real estate restructuring experience including both bankruptcy and out-of-court restructurings. 

His clients consist of publicly traded and privately held domestic and foreign real estate operating companies, developers, REITs, pension funds, sovereign wealth funds, and other institutional investors.

He has been recognized by The Legal 500 US as a leading lawyer in Real Estate and hailed as “masterful in joint venture analysis and negotiations.” He was also recognized as a 2018 Real Estate MVP by Law360.

  • Non-traded REIT in connection with sale of US$2.3 billion real estate portfolio
  • Global food and drug retailer in connection with US$900 million sale of real estate development business
  • Leading real estate investment trust in connection with a merger with a non-traded REIT resulting in a combined US$7 billion public company
  • Foreign investor in connection with its investment in a mixed use development having a value of US$1 billion
  • National industrial developer in connection with a US$250 million private note placement
  • Non-traded REIT in connection with a US$350 million unsecured revolving credit facility
